Gone But Not Forgotten
Millie (AKA Dave)
Oh, Mildred how we miss you! Being the odd one out you were always the topic of conversation!! Starting with the name! One of my boys started calling her “Dave” I believe this was in the Alvin and the Chipmuck faze, well it stuck, and she even responded to it! HAHA
When I got Millie, I had big hopes for her! However, a week after her first birthday all of those plans changed. We found out she had mammary cancer; this was a 1 in a 33,000 chance a dog this young would develop this. The mass was removed, and Millie was spayed at that time in hopes the lack of estrogen would help slow anymore cell growth. My vet couldn’t give me a timeline for her life span because typically when they get this type of cancer, they are older, more commonly around 10 and they have it removed and live the rest of their life.
I was very fortunate and blessed to have had Millie for 11.5 years. She left us December of 2022 just before the new year. Millie made a huge impact on our lives; we miss her every day.
Remi
“Lukey’s first Remington”
Remi was my first female! She was the BEST momma dog ever! Remi lived to be 13 years old, and she is the one started it all! Remi loved all the babies. She would happily take on extras if another mom needed some help! She was the queen bee up until the day she left us.
Watson
“Sir Watson Douglas of WCK”
Nothing could have prepared me for this loss. Watson was only 14 months old when he died. I love all of my animals, but this was by far the HARDEST animal death I have ever experienced.
By the time Watson showed signs of his illness he had died within 2 weeks. It was so fast I didn’t even know what hit me. After working with our local vet continuously for nearly two weeks they referred us to the University of Ames in Ames IA. It was there that they discovered Watson had a rare aggressive form of Lymphoma and even with treatment his life span would be 45 days to 3 months.
I purchased him to use as my new breeder. He had passed all of his clearances and I had started planning breeding’s and what seemed like a blink of an eye that all came to an abrupt halt. If I have to find a positive in the situation, it is that I learned of his cancer before I bred with him. He was turning out to be a beautiful and handsome boy. His personality was like no other. Not only did he leave huge holes in our heart and lives, but he left some extremely big shoes to fill. There will truly never be another dog like Watson.

Otis
“Otis Milos Best Friend”
Otis was my very first lab!!! He was a good boy even though he would steal bread off the counters! Like most labs he just needed to be “with the people”. He was extremely loyal and started my love for the labrador retriever! He lived to be 10 years old.
